Liberal QotD: Day 53
“The Stupak amendment would effectively ban insurance companies from selling insurance plans that cover elective abortion on the individual and small group market. It would be one of the most far-reaching national restriction placed on abortion in decades. It could also potential be used by insurance companies to allow them to legally discriminate against low-income Americans.” – Jon Walker, writer for “Firedoglake”
Obviously, it was a saving grace that Obamacare was passed in the House yesterday at 10pm. However, like many, I am a little perturbed by the Stupak amendment.
It’s disgusting that low-income mothers might not be able to fund their abortions. Realistically, these mothers don’t even make up the largest majority of abortions because they are responsible and practice safe sex. There is no way that they would take advantage of this comp… they have too high of morals AND standards.
What really gets my goat about this amendment are the Republicans and Joe LIEberman who voted for this amendments, then later voted against the health care bill. So, clearly their true intentions were never to expand health care, but only to scale back women’s reproductive rights!! BOGUS!
